Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has held meetings with members of the monitoring missions of the Parliament of Italy and the National Assembly of Serbia who had come to our country for the extraordinary presidential election.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis thanked the guests for having monitored the presidential election, which, she pointed up, was of special significance to our country. That was the first election conducted in all the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan including the de-occupied provinces where 26 fully fitted-out election districts had been set up, Sahiba Gafarova told her guests.

Having congratulated the Azerbaijani side on the successful completion of the election, the Chairman of the Monitoring Mission of the Parliament of Italy Andreo di Giuseppe remarked that the mission he headed had observed the vote at 15 stations. He stressed that the presidential election had been arranged in keeping with international rules. He also highlighted the active youth involvement, describing it as an indicator of democracy. The Italian MP went further to mention several election organisation innovations spotted by the mission; he said those had provided for a yet sounder progress of the overall proceedings.

Deputy President of the National Assembly of Serbia Sandra Božić, too, stressed that the presidential election had been conducted as based o democratic principles and norms. She then praised the constituent activity and said that the election having set such high standards was a fine democratic token.

Sandra Božić said she was pleased to be in Azerbaijan and that the delegation she led was the first Serbian one to have been to Garabagh. The Serbian visitors had monitored the vote in Shusha and Khankendi where they had been able to eyewitness the immense restoration and re-building work done in those Azerbaijani towns in such a short time, Mrs Božić continued.

Our inter-parliamentary co-operation, endeavours of the friendship groups to deepen the relations and opportunities to broaden interaction between committees of the three national legislatures were discussed at the meetings as well.
