Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with President of the National Assembly and Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand Wanmuhammadnur Matha.

Expressing pleasure at the opportunity to welcome the guest at the Milli Majlis, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasised that that meeting was a fine opportunity to discuss issues related to bilateral and multilateral co-operation.

It was mentioned that the President of the National Assembly was visiting in our country in order to take part in the 14th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly held in Baku. A confidence was voiced that the capital city of Azerbaijan would host this important international event successfully; it was further said that an array of substantial matters were going to be discussed in the course of the Session.

President of the National Assembly and Chairman of the House of Representatives Wanmuhammadnur Matha thanked for the hospitality extended to him before sharing favourable impressions what he had seen in Baku, the architecture of our capital and the cultural ambience had left on him during the visit.

Having offered congratulations to President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of his victory in the 7 February extraordinary presidential election and the election as President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Wanmuhammadnur Matha witnessed his confidence that Azerbaijan would continue on a course of successful development under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova thanked for the congratulations, adding that the election was of historic importance to our nation and state. It is because it was for the first time that an election had been held in every part of the whole and sovereign territory of Azerbaijan including the de-occupied towns and villages. She stressed that another manifestation of the Azerbaijani people’s confidence in President Ilham Aliyev was one more proof of our people’s high appreciation of the work done under the leadership of the Head of State over the 20 years past and of the unprecedented achievement secured.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova shared information about Azerbaijan’s having liberated her lands from the 30-year-long occupation by Armenia consequent to the 44 days’ Patriotic War of 2020, the restoration by our country of her sovereignty as a result of the anti-terrorist measures undertaken last year, the immense restoration and rebuilding work currently conducted in the de-occupied lands as well as about Armenia’s mining of our territories and the hurdles created by that provocation.

The President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand remarked that his country had invariably supported the resolutions of the UN Security Council concerning the issues of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and that this was an unequivocal standpoint.

Information about Azerbaijan’s path of democratic progress and the atmosphere of multiculturalism and tolerance present in our country was, too, presented during the conversation.

There was an exchange of opinions about ways to further the co-operation between our countries in trade, education and tourism. Opportunities to broaden the inter-parliamentary relations were discussed as well. It was said that representatives of the legislative bodies were envoys of their peoples and that broadening collaboration in that area would serve to improve further the situations of our peoples. The role of the friendship groups in the inter-parliamentary relations was underscored, too.
