Czech MPs Go to Aghdam
The Head of the Friendship Group with Azerbaijan in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jan Kubík and Member of the Chamber of Deputies Michal Raciborski visited the de-occupied town of Aghdam on 21 June. The Czech MPs were accompanied by Member of the Azerbaijan-Czech Inter-Parliamentary Relations Working Group MP Aliabbas Salahzade.
The guests were provided with detailed information about the war crimes committed by Armenia in Aghdam, which it had kept under occupation for almost 30 years. It was noted that before the Armenian occupation, Aghdam was one of the largest and most advanced towns not only in the Garabagh Region but also in the whole country. After the capture of Aghdam on 23 July 1993, the Armenian fascists looted, destroyed and burned houses, schools and all infrastructure. Cemeteries and historical and cultural monuments in Aghdam were also subjected to Armenian vandalism.
The visitors to the town’s Friday Mosque were told that the Armenians had not destroyed it totally but had been using its minarets to military ends in the occupation period. Still, some parts of the mosque had been torn down; the inscriptions had been either erased or damaged beyond recognition. The Armenian vandals had demonstrated their hatred of the Azerbaijanis and the Muslim World by keeping cattle in the town’s mosque. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation began restoration of the mosque after the de-occupation of Aghdam.
The guests were shown the traces of Armenian vandalism in the Alley of Shahids in the central street of the town of Aghdam. Then, at the camp of the President’s Special Representative in Aghdam, the Czech MPs were informed in great detail of the construction work that will be carried out in line with the town’s master plan. The delegation were also shown to the Aghdam Conference Centre.
