Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Speaker of National Assembly of Co-operative Republic of Guyana

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova who is in the Swiss Confederation on a working visit had a meeting on the margins of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana Manzoor Nadir on 23 March.

It was stressed during the meeting that the meetings held under the aegis of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and in other international organisations as well as the dialogue help broaden the relations between the legislative assemblies.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova underlined the fact that parliamentarians represent their nations, adding that deepening the links between the legislatures also brought the nations closer.

The conversation touched upon the issues of co-operation in international organisations. They underlined the significance of the links within the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement that was established at the instance of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova informed her colleague of the global initiatives that President Ilham Aliyev had put forward when our country presided over the Non-Aligned Movement, in which connexion she underscored the importance of the emergence of the Organisation’s Parliamentary Network for the progress of parliamentary diplomacy. It was further said that the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network had held one constituent and two sequential conferences so far.

Speaker of the National Assembly of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana Manzoor Nadir commented on the gravitas of inter-legislature links and mentioned the special attention his country attaches to co-operation in international parliamentary entities.

It was  said during the meeting that both countries attached great significance to tolerance and multicultural values; the two Speakers of Parliament voiced their thoughts about the inadmissibility of national, racial and religious discrimination currently observable the world over.

Besides, there was an exchange of opinions about several other matters of joint interest.
