Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Speaker of People’s National Assembly of People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting in the course of her current working visit to the Swiss Confederation with Speaker of the People’s National Assembly of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Ibrahim Boughali in Geneva on 23 March.
At the meeting, they underscored the existing great potential to continue the progress of the relations between the friendly Azerbaijan and Algeria. The inter-legislature connexions were highlighted as a substantial facet of the relations between our countries. The work done by the friendship groups will promote a continued deepening of the links. The Speaker said that our parliaments also had successful co-operation going in international organisations where they provide each other with mutual support. Comments were a propos regarding a continued development of the links in the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.
Then, the contribution of reciprocal visits of the Presidents of Parliament to the deepening of the ties between our legislative assemblies was emphasised. The two Speakers, besides, reviewed co-operation opportunities for parliamentary committees concerned with various specialist areas.
Speaker of the People’s National Assembly off the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Ibrahim Boughali passed on congratulations to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on his landslide victory in the extraordinary presidential election conducted in the country.
Mr Boughali stressed that his country was interested in furthering the bilateral – including inter-parliamentary – relations with Azerbaijan. He also commented on the significance of mutual support shared in international parliamentary entities.
The immense importance of the COP29 to be hosted by Azerbaijan this year was broached then. The steps our country is taking to prepare for this tremendous international event were talked of.
Also, there was an exchange of views upon other matters of interest to both sides as the meeting drew on.
