Satisfaction with the current condition of the high-level relations between our countries was voiced and the progress of political and economic co-operation as well as of co-operation in several other areas was mentioned during the meeting.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova remarked that the high-notch relations between the Heads of State contributed substantially to the strengthening of the friendship of our countries and nations. She also stressed that such relations continued successfully between the two legislatures. Recalling fondly her own official visit to Serbia, Sahiba Gafarova said that the meetings  and discussions held during it had promoted a continued broadening of the ties between our legislatures. Besides, the two  side exchanged opinions about the options to expand co-operation between the friendship groups and amongst parliamentary committees.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Serbia offered his congratulations on President Ilham Aliyev’s confident victory at the extraordinary presidential election held in Azerbaijan, adding that the Serbian monitoring mission had watched the ballot that had gone on in a free and democratic situation. Serbia is interested in continuing the expansion of the relations with Azerbaijan in diverse areas, the Speaker of the National Assembly said before remarking that the bilateral inter-legislature links factored considerably in the on-going deepening of the connexions between our countries.

The double standards demonstrable in the system of international relations including in international organisations including, in turn, in the PACE were criticised by both Presidents of Parliament then. They agreed that such circumstances contradicted the goals and mission of the PACE.

Besides, they talked about the significance of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29). It was said that the Serbian side congratulated Azerbaijan on the forthcoming hosting of this formidable event.

It was further said that, protesting against the refusal to affirm the credentials of the Azerbaijani Delegation to the PACE, the Parliament of Serbia had appealed to the Organisation’s leadership for a reversal of that decision. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova thanked the Serbian side for that move.

There was then an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
