Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with the delegation led by the Head of the Delegation of the Grand National Assembly to the NATO PA Mevlut Çavuşoğlu.

As it was said at the meeting, the relations between our brotherly countries have reached the highest level ever; guided by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev's slogan ‘one nation, two states’, Azerbaijan and Türkiye demonstrate solidarity and mutual support in all issues. It was also noted that the fraternity resting upon mutual respect and mutual trust, political will and determination of the Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had made certain that our relations had reached the level of an alliance. The on-going joint activities of Azerbaijan and Türkiye and the significant contribution of the large-scale projects implemented by them to co-operation at regional and international levels were talked of as well.

Then, they underlined the important role of our parliaments in the continuing broadening of the ties between the two countries. The level of the relations as they are now was mentioned with content. It was stressed that our legislative assemblies co-operate via parliamentary committees, friendship groups and administrative staffs.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova was pleased to recall her own official visits to Türkiye and the meetings with the GNAT Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. She said that reciprocal visits pointed at the high level of the ties between our legislatures. It was pointed out then that the co-operation agreement between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye was a mechanism instrumental in carrying into life the item on inter-parliamentary co-operation in the Shusha Declaration and in seeing to it that the Azerbaijani-Turkish alliance also advances in the parliamentary dimension.

Expressing satisfaction with his stay in Azerbaijan, Mevlut Çavuşoğlu voiced congratulations to President Ilham Aliyev on the historic victory in the extraordinary presidential elections held in our country this year. According to Mr Çavuşoğlu, this victory is the result of President Ilham Aliyev's unprecedented services to the people, as well as the Garabagh Victory.

They mentioned with satisfaction the current level of co-operation between our parliaments on international platforms. One of the important goals of this co-operation is reinforcing the already very close ties between our delegations in selected international parliamentary organisations, as well as to forge common positions and establish regular channels of communication to ensure joint activities. Today's visit by Mevlut Çavuşoğlu also reflects the intention of both parliaments to strengthen ties in this direction.

It was then said that today we are witnessing double standards towards our countries in some international organisations. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is one of the organisations manifesting a particular bias against our country. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said that today the PACE, unfortunately, was not the same it was when Mevlut Çavuşoğlu had chaired it. This Organisation has changed a lot. There are no values in the PACE anymore, the organisation has lost its objectivity.

The importance of ensuring stability and security in the region was emphasised as well. Mevlut Çavuşoğlu said that the stability and development of Azerbaijan were important not only for the region but also for Europe and Asia as a whole. He regretted the existence of a number of countries, with France at their head, negatively influencing Armenia. But Azerbaijan is not alone. Turkey supports peace and will continue to be a brotherly country standing next to Azerbaijan.

They also exchanged opinions regarding certain other issues of shared concern.
