Interparliamentary Relations are Expanding

The Milli Majlis Working Group for the interparliamentary contacts Azerbaijan-Austria and the Austrian Parliament’s group for interparliamentary friendship Austria-South Caucasus had an online meeting on 12 April.

Leader of the Milli Majlis working group and chairman of the parliamentary Committee for Economic Policy, Industries and Enterprising Tahir Mirkishili spoke at the meeting to cover the growth dynamics of the bilateral relations, the existing potential and prospects, co-operation opportunities and that the liberation of the Azerbaijani lands from the Armenian occupation in the 44-day Patriotic War had embedded a new kind of reality in the region.

Leader of the Austrian Parliament’s friendship group Gudrun Kugler and her group’s members took interest in the post-war situation in our region, the fate of the IDP, protection of history and religion monuments, the countering of the coronavirus infection in Azerbaijan, pandemic-time education and the progress of the vaccination.

The Azerbaijani MPs Tahir Mirkishili, Mahir Abbaszade, Ulviya Agayeva, Ali Masimli, Sahib Aliyev, Nurlan Hasanov and Elnur Allahverdiyev shed light on the topics of interest to the Austrian colleagues. The speakers also covered the current reforms in Azerbaijan, the political dialoguing platform created in the country, the state-level protection of the national heritage and religious monuments, the tolerance in the country, the damage dealt to our country by the thirty-year-long occupation and Armenia’s stubborn disinclination to let Azerbaijan have minefield maps. It was pointed out that the international community holding its peace about such matters as that was difficult to comprehend.

The Austrian MPs were also informed of Azerbaijan’s policy on the pandemic, the steps that the state is taking to support the economy, the social welfare package and the measures adopted to curb the infection’s spread and to press on with the vaccination.

Besides, the online event that went as a constructive dialogue saw an exchange of opinions about the forms of co-operation between Azerbaijan and Austria, experience exchanges and the need to bolster co-operation in certain areas.

The members of the Milli Majlis Amina Agazade and Vugar Bayramov and other officials were taking part in the online meeting, too.
