Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Georgian Parliamentary Committee Chairman

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with the Chairman of the Economic Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Davit Songulashvili. The progress of the relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia was brought up with satisfaction during the meeting.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova remarked that our nations which share the common cultural values had coexisted in amity and good neighbourhood for centuries. She added that it was on such a solid foundation that the ties between our countries were built.

It was said at the meeting that the relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia had culminated in strategic partnership and continued advancing. They talked about the significance of summit and high-level visits for the progress of the relations between the two countries as well as about the dynamics of the two Heads of State’s reciprocal visits signified the immense importance they attach to the relationship.

Having then described the inter-parliamentary connexions as one of the important components of the bilateral as well as multilateral Azerbaijani-Georgian relations, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova mentioned the very effective co-operation built up between our legislative bodies to date. The mutual trips of the Presidents of Parliament, parliamentary delegations and friendship groups have generated a serious momentum behind the progress of this co-operation. Besides, there is already a sound experience of co-operation amongst our parliamentary committees.

It also said at the meeting that strengthening ties between the economic committees of our legislative assemblies would further enhance co-operation – both between our parliaments and between the state bodies in general – which matters given the importance of economic issues in the co-operation between Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Having conveyed the greetings of the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Davit Songulashvili offered his congratulations on the successful conduct of the extraordinary presidential elections in Azerbaijan that had gone in all the sovereign territories of our country. He also underlined the essential role of the parliaments in the development of the relations between the two countries

The double standards existing in several international organisations in the West were subjected to criticism and it was said at that it was necessary to intensify the joint endeavours in international institutions then. Also, there was an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
