Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Receives Ambassador of Swiss Confederation in Our Country

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in our country Thomas Stähli.

The meeting addressed the issues of further expansion of co-operation between our countries in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The current level of bilateral relations developing in the spirit of friendship and co-operation was said to be gratifying. It was also noted that high-level reciprocal visits and continuous political dialogue are of great importance for the continued development of bilateral relations

Besides, there was a commentary on the need in a yet more expanded inter-parliamentary co-operation as an essential aspect of the relations. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova recalled her visits to the Swiss Confederation, namely, the official one in 2022 and the working visit paid this year. She proceeded to underscore the significance of the contacts for the broadening of the co-operation between the legislative assemblies, including the role that the friendship groups play in this process.

The energy co-operation was broached as an important facet of the economic ties between the two countries. Azerbaijan and Switzerland have fruitful co-operation afoot in that particular field. Besides, possible co-operation in the sector of alternative energy was brought up in consideration of Azerbaijan’s rich resources of this nature.

The guest was informed of the current situation in the region and the large-scale restoration and building work that Azerbaijan continues in Garabagh and East Zangazur. Matters related to Swiss companies joining the reclamation of those territories were discussed as well.

Besides, the meeting saw an exchange of opinions concerning other subjects of shared interest.
