The working groups for interparliamentary relations of the legislatures of Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic had an online meeting on 14 April.

Leader of the Milli Majlis Working Group Elnur Allahverdiyev informed the Czech MPs of the Patriotic War having culminated in Azerbaijan’s victory in November last year and of the current situation in the country. He also made them aware of the devastation Armenia had caused in the Azerbaijani lands it had occupied for thirty years and of the minefields in those areas. Azerbaijan initiated an all-out restoration activity in the liberated lands. As decreed by the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, it is intended to materialise the ‘green zone’ concept, use cutting-edge technologies in the restoration work and build ‘smart’ villages and towns in those territories. And, last but not least, Azerbaijan means to organise for the internally displaced people to return to their homes the soonest, according to Mr Allahverdiyev.

Fatma Yildirim of the Milli Majlis Working Group spoke of Armenia’s reluctance to let Azerbaijan have the minefields’ maps. She said she took that as Armenia remaining on a course for continued aggression.

Leader of the Czech-Azerbaijani parliamentary friendship group Zdeněk Ondráček and members of his group shared the information about the current state of affairs in the Czech Republic and about the parliamentary elections due this autumn. They told the Azerbaijani colleagues what they thought about the damage the Armenian occupation had dealt Azerbaijan, about the destruction and the loss of human life. The Czech MPs emphasised that the co-operation with Azerbaijan mattered very much to their country. They welcomed the steps being taken to normalise relations in the region before wishing Azerbaijan success with reviving and promoting life in the freed provinces and voicing their support for this initiative.

The members of the Milli Majlis Ulviya Agayeva, Jala Ahmadova, Naghif Hamzayev, Soltan Mammadov and Elshan Musayev attended the online meeting, too.
