Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with President of the Republic of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis passed on to the Head of the State of Singapore the greetings of President of Azerbaijan Aliyev.

President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam expressed his gratitude and, in turn, asked that his greetings be conveyed to the Head of the Azerbaijani State.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam recalled the 30^th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations due this year and mentioned the cordial relations between Azerbaijan and Singapore. There is also a successful experience of co-operation in several areas. It was stressed that the positive results secured to date provide a stimulus to combine forces for the continued growth of the relations.

The exceptional role of political contacts as well as mutual visits and meetings in this process was touched upon as well. In addition, it was said that economic relations are one of the main components of bilateral relations, and the current level of trade and economic ties is a solid basis for more extensive co-operation

The importance of inter-parliamentary co-operation in deepening relations between our countries was also mentioned. The importance of regular contacts, dialogue and exchange of views in this field was noted. It was said that this is the first visit of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan to Singapore, information was given about the meetings held within the framework of the visit, and confidence was expressed that these meetings and discussions will make a positive contribution to the development of relations.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, besides, talked about the current situation in the region and the peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Also, the conversation touched upon the 29^th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Azerbaijan in November this year. The President of Singapore said that his country intended to maintain a high profile at the event.

There was also an exchange of opinions about several other topics of shared interest.
