The delegation headed by the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament visit Towns of Fuzuli and Shusha

On 19 May the delegation headed by the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia Daiga Mieriņa visited the cities of Fizuli and Shusha.

First, the delegation which arrived in Fuzuli Province were familiarised with the monument to the first shahids of the 44-day Patriotic War, the mosque of Merdinli village and Fizuli International Airport. Then the guests of the town of Fuzuli were informed about the destructions and acts of vandalism committed by Armenia during the occupation of Fuzuli and about the large-scale re-construction and reclamation works carried out in the city after its liberation from occupation. They were told the construction of the first residential neighbourhood in Fuzuli had been completed and the return of former IDPs to their homeland had already begun. After acquainting themselves with the Mirza Ulugbek Full Secondary School No. 1 built in Fuzuli, the participants of the trip left for Shusha.

The delegation's visit to Shusha started with acquaintance with the city's Central Square, where the originally shot-at statues of Natavan, Bulbul and Uzeyir Hajibeyli, famous personalities of Azerbaijan, are reinstalled.

Special Representative of the resident of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha Province Aydin Karimov briefed the Latvian delegation on the history of the town of Shusha, its condition during the occupation and the construction work afoot there.

Next, the delegation were shown to the Yukhari Govkhar Agha Mosque, the Bulbul Memorial House, the Stronghold Walls and the Shusha Branch of the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan. Lastly, the guests who had arrived in the Jidir lain marvelled at the magnificent overlook from there.

The guests were accompanied on this tour by Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis Adil Aliyev, Head of the Parliamentary Working Group for interparliamentary relations with Latvia Kamran Bayramov, MP Konul Nurullayeva, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Latvia Elnur Sultanov and other officials.
