Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova Meets Delegation Led by Chairman of Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Commission for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with the delegation headed by Chairman of the Commission for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Mahmut Özer.

It was said during the meeting that the relations between our brotherly countries are at the highest level obtainable, that the common historical, linguistic, religious and national-spiritual values that unite our peoples underlie our relations, and that the two nations have always been together. They also touched upon the exceptional role of high-level and high-level reciprocal visits in the development of bilateral relations and emphasised in this regard the significance of the visits of the Heads of State.

Satisfaction was expressed with the current fruitful co-operation of our countries in all the areas and under the guidance of the Heads of State. It was said that the brotherly relations, political will and determination of President Ilham Aliyev and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which rest on mutual respect and mutual trust, play a key role in the comprehensive development of the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations which have reached the stage of alliance.

The speaker of the Milli Majlis quoted the President of Azerbaijan as having said, ‘Our family is the Turkic World’. She said that our countries had also contributed importantly to the progress of the linkage amongst the Turkic states. Parliamentarians have important tasks to fulfil in this respect, according to Sahiba Gafarova.

Besides, our parliaments support and promote the advancement of the ties between the two countries and nations, and the inter-parliamentary co-operation is setting high standards currently. Apart from the bilateral co-operation between the Milli Majlis and the GNAT there is also the co-operation that goes on in trilateral and multilateral formats. Furthermore, our parliaments interact efficiently in international organisations where they take common stances on all the matters that appear on agendas. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova mentioning the inking of the Co-operation Agreement between the Milli Majlis and the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. That agreement envisages further deepening of the comprehensive ties between our parliaments. It is an important mechanism for the implementation of the paragraph of the Shusha Declaration on inter-parliamentary co-operation and the mirroring of the Azerbaijani-Turkish alliance on the parliamentary level. The relations between parliamentary committees and friendship groups are crucial for this purpose.

Chairman of the GNAT Commission Mahmut Özer witnessed his pleasure with the visit to Azerbaijan and the arrival at the Milli Majlis before recalling his visit to our country in early May for the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, which, he remarked, had been organised at a very high level.

Then, they talked about the extensive educational links between our brotherly countries, the links which are as broad as our ties in all the other fields. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova underscored the special role of education in upbringing the young generation and preserving family values. She accentuated the immense significance of instilling the youth with devotion to the national values and brotherly connexions.

A shared satisfaction with the emergence of the Turkish-Azerbaijani University was voiced, too. It was stressed that that was a manifestation of our countries’ fraternity. This university will bring about better education and a further progress of our young people.

Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for Sciences and Education Bakhtiyar Aliyev, GNAT Members Nazim Maviş, Mehmet Emin Öz, Nurten Yontar and Şenol Sunat, Ambassador of Türkiye in Azerbaijan Cahit Bağçı, Chief of the Milli Majlis Staff Farid Hajiyev and other officials also attended the meeting.
