Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the newly-appointed ambassador of Ukraine to our country Yuriy Husyev on 27 June.

Telling the ambassador she was glad to welcome him at the Azerbaijani Parliament, Speaker of the Milli Majlis congratulated the diplomat on the posting and wished him success in his work here.

The current condition of the Azerbaijani-Ukrainian relations and the advancement of the ties in various areas in the period since both countries regained their independences were talked of with contentment at the meeting. They also talked about the importance of the friendly ties and the cultural and spiritual bonds between our countries and peoples. The reciprocal visits of our Heads of State and meetings held during those were broached as well. It was said that the two countries’ friendly relations manifested themselves in many areas.

Also was mentioned the active co-operation between our countries, be it bilaterally or in international organisations. The same of kind of co-operation is afoot on the parliamentary level, too. Reciprocal visits of parliamentary delegations, meetings held during those visits and the co-operation in international organisations are all very important. Then, they mentioned the mutual inter-parliamentary friendship groups in the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

The conversation moved on to the progress of the cultural and other ties; the significance of the numerous documents that Azerbaijan and Ukraine have signed to date was emphasised.

Ambassador Yuriy Husyev thanked Azerbaijan for her humanitarian aid extended to Ukraine and declared his intention to make every effort to ensure a continued progress of the bilateral relations.

The active Ukrainian support for the 29^th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), due to take place in Azerbaijan, was also lauded.

Besides, there was an exchange of views upon several other matters of shared interest.
