Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets Heads of Parliament of Belarus, Ethiopia whilst in St Petersburg

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had meetings with Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Speaker of the House of Federation of Ethiopia Agegnehu Teshager in the course of her current working visit to St Petersburg in Russian Federation.

The Azerbaijani-Belarusian partnership connexions based on the principles of friendship were brought up with contentment at the meeting with Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova. The two speakers underlined the significant role of the Heads of State’s high-level ties in the progress of the elevated relations between the two countries currently. They mentioned the recent intensification of reciprocal status visits between Azerbaijan and Belarus, adding that the documents signed to date provide for a continued deepening of the relationship.

The importance of continuing the progress of the inter-state co-operation in various fields was underlined during the conversation; they also exchanged opinions about existing relevant opportunities.

Further, they expressed satisfaction with the fruitful co-operation between the legislatures of Azerbaijan and Belarus, bilateral as well as in inter-parliamentary organisations. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova recalled fondly her official visit to the Republic of Belarus and the meetings held during it last month.

The current condition and growth prospects of the bilateral inter-state ties and the existence of co-operation opportunities in several areas were broached at the meeting with Speaker of the Council of Federation of Ethiopia.

It was emphasised that the parliaments of the two countries were collaborating in various international institutions. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova covered the activities of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at the suggestion of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. Ethiopia’s attendance of the Organisation’s conference was mentioned. It was then said that our legislative assemblies had friendship groups in action and that it was important to put on reciprocal visits of those groups.

The Speaker of the Council of Federation of Ethiopia lauded Azerbaijan’s input in the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and praised the initiatives that had put forth whilst presiding over the NAM.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), to be held in Baku in November this year, was touched on at both meetings. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova told the colleagues about the Parliamentary Conference that the Milli Majlis will hold jointly with the Inter-Parliamentary Union on the margins of the COP29.
