The Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Numan Kurtulmuş

Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş whilst on a working visit to Geneva in Switzerland.

Numan Kurtulmuş congratulated Sahiba Gafarova on the successful accomplishment of the extraordinary elections in the Milli Majlis and her re-election as Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament, expressing also satisfaction with the successful development of fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye. The Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye noted that our countries demonstrate a common position on all issues and emphasized that new conditions have emerged in the region after the 44-day Patriotic War. In this context, he mentioned the extensive reconstruction efforts in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, as well as the opening of the Zangazur Corridor, which will create significant opportunities for the Turkic world and Turkic-speaking countries.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova thanked Mr Kurtulmuş for the congratulations and noted that the first person to congratulate her after her re-election to this position was the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. She expressed gratitude for that the largest delegation among the observers at the elections was that of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasised that the relations between our fraternal countries, which have developed based on the slogan of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, “One nation, two states,” have today reached the highest level thanks to the political will and joint efforts of the leaders of our countries. She remarked that our fraternal nations hold common positions on all issues, including mutual support in international organisations.

During the meeting, it was emphasised that the existing high-level co-operative relations between our countries are also developing in the parliamentary dimension and that this activity will continue in the upcoming periods. The significant importance of contacts between the heads of parliaments, friendship groups, and deputies for strengthening common relations was mentioned. The significance of meetings in a trilateral format at the parliamentary level was also duly noted.

Then, they talked about our countries’ advocation of the regional peace and collaboration agenda.

Additionally, the importance of joint actions by parliaments on multilateral platforms related to climate change was highlighted.

During the conversation, there was also an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
