Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has received the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Azerbaijan Cahit Bağçı.

The Ambassador, who congratulated the Head of Parliament Sahiba Gafarova on her re-election to the position, noted that the Milli Majlis had made a significant contribution to further deepening relations between our countries during the past period.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the successful development of the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Turkey in accordance with the "One nation, two states" motto and emphasised our countries’ and peoples’ having always stood together in both joyful and difficult times. The Speaker remarked that the friendship and brotherhood of our heads of state serve as an example for each of us.

She then said that there are currently those who envy the existing fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Furthermore, some circles are attempting to exert pressure on Azerbaijan and Turkey in an attempt to influence their independent policies, which are based on national interests. Sahiba Gafarova stressed that such attempts will not yield results and that our states will continue to confidently progress along the path of development.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis mentioned that Numan Kurtulmuş was the first to congratulate her on the re-election and that the observer mission from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey had the largest delegation at the parliamentary elections. According to Sahiba Gafarova, this indicates that, as in other areas, the ties between our parliaments are at the highest level.

The Speaker recalled with satisfaction the meeting with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, underscoring the effective discussions held on the agenda during that meeting. She stated that the working group on interparliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey has been completely reformed. Relevant efforts will continue to further develop relations in the upcoming period.

What else was said at the meeting was that Azerbaijan and Turkey successfully cooperate in many international organisations, including the Organisation of Turkic States, and that our parliaments continue their activities in this regard within the framework of TurkPA.

As she spoke about Cahit Bağçı's activities as the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Azerbaijan, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova stressed that he has also established close contacts with the country's legislative body.

The meeting also had an exchange of views on other issues of shared interest.
