Recently, the Community of Western Azerbaijan sent an appeal to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova.

The appeal states that the Society of Western Azerbaijan actively engages in international activities, participating in the events of international organisations as a party, and consistently raises the issue of the return of Azerbaijanis displaced from their homes in Western Azerbaijan. Even states and international organizations that hold a biased stance towards our country should accept this issue as a substantial argument in the field of human rights.

The letter puts forward a proposal to establish an institution within the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan for issues related to the return to Western Azerbaijan. It is indicated that the creation of such an institution in the parliament will primarily demonstrate consensus in the country regarding the issue at hand and will also allow for effective ongoing discussions about the problem of Western Azerbaijan not only from a legislative perspective but also within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy.

Taking all that into account, pursuant to the decree of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, an Initiative Group for the Return to Western Azerbaijan has been established in parliament, led by MP Aziz Alakbarov, to support the realization of the rights of forcibly deported Azerbaijanis to return to their homeland.

The decree outlines the duties and powers of the Initiative Group for the Return to Western Azerbaijan.
