Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova in a Meeting with Russian Ambassador to Our Country
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov.
The high-level progress of the relations between our countries was mentioned with pleasure and the considerable role of the reciprocal visits of the Heads of State in the broadening of those links was remarked upon at the meeting. In this context was highlighted the good impact on the dynamics of the relations between our countries of the state visit of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to Azerbaijan in August this year and of the visits of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Russia in October.
It was said during the conversation that the ties between the two legislative assemblies were developing just as the interaction of our countries in all the other areas were; the fruitful co-operation of our parliaments in several international parliamentary entities was brought up. Besides, a confidence was voiced as to the successful continuation of the connections in this area in the future.
In addition, the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) were discussed, too. It was said that the Russian Federation would participate in both the COP29 and the Parliamentary Conference to take place on its margins at a high level. The inadmissibility of the attempts at politicising this important international event was pointed out. Azerbaijan's contributions to the resolution of global issues were praised highly as well.
The conversation included criticism of the biased documents concerning Azerbaijan and passed by the European Parliament; so were also the anti-Azerbaijani acts of this Organisation. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said that the steps taken by the European Parliament failed to adhere to the spirit of parliamentarism, adding that our country refuted categorically the lopsided and partial resolutions that distort reality. She underlined the need for objective opinions and a dialogue in relations between parliaments.
