Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Speaker of Senate of Oliy Majlis of Republic of Uzbekistan

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, who is visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the Parliamentary Meeting organised by the Azerbaijani Parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union as part of the COP29 in Baku. 

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed her gratitude to the guest for participating in this important event hosted by Azerbaijan and for the speech she had delivered at the meeting. 

It was remarked that global co-operation is indispensable in addressing the challenges the world faces due to climate change, and that parliaments play a crucial role in this regard.

During the conversation, Speaker of the Milli Majlis mentioned the high standards of the relations between our countries. She underscored also the tremendous role of mutual visits of the Presidents and of the conversations held in the advancement of the comprehensive relations between the two states.

Then, the Speaker broached the significance of  the documents signed to date and aimed at furthering the growth of the co-operation and deepening  of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

Sahiba Gafarova expressed her satisfaction with the visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Azerbaijan to participate in the COP29 as well as the meeting held on 13 November between President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan. During that meeting, a ceremony to inaugurate a sewing factory in the city of Khankendi was held via videoconference, with the leaders of both countries in attendance. 

According to Sahiba Gafarova, the assistance of their Uzbek friends in building a school in Fuzuli and establishing this remarkable enterprise in Khankendi, where thousands will be employed, is a testament to the fraternal relations between the two nations. 

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis underscored the successful development of the collaboration between the legislative bodies, adding that the inter-parliamentary friendship groups active in the legislatures of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan contribute significantly to the strengthening of the bilateral ties. Members of Parliament from both countries also engage in fruitful collaboration within international parliamentary organisations. 

Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva expressed her gratitude for the meeting and the invitation to such a momentous event.

She also extended her congratulations on the successful organisation of such a prestigious event as the COP29 happens to be and highlit the importance of the issues discussed there for the future of the entire world.

They emphasised the role of legislative assemblies in the development of relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan and the significance of reciprocal visits by parliamentary delegations.

Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva fondly recalled her meetings with Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova stressing their significance for strengthening cooperation between the legislative bodies.

The meeting also saw an exchange of views on other matters of  shared interest.
