Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with First Deputy Speaker of Federation Council of Russian Federation

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Andrei Yatskin, who is in Azerbaijan for the Parliamentary Meeting organised by the Azerbaijani Parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union within the framework of COP29.

Collaboration of our countries and the legislative bodies as well as the exchange of views in the discussions held at the COP29 were considered at the meeting.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said that climate change issues are of concern to all states; she recalled that Azerbaijan chaired the COP29 and hosted this conference equally successfully. She highlighted the productive discussions with the participation of all the stakeholders in this important world event and said that significant results have already been achieved. The Speaker thanked the Russian side for participating in both the COP29 and the Parliamentary Meeting.

Andrey Yatskin, in turn, offered congratulations on the successful arrangement of the COP29, saying that the whole world showed great interest in this global event taking place in Baku.

The important role of parliaments in addressing climate change issues was emphasised as well as the conversation went on. The holding of the Parliamentary Meeting is particularly of gravitas in this regard, whereas the strengthening of the participation of parliaments in the process, mutual discussions and discussions are a good platform for developing a common approach.

Besides, satisfaction was also expressed with the high level of development of relations between the two countries; it was said that mutual visits of the Heads of State play an important role in expanding relations. The relations between the legislative assemblies of our countries are advancing just as our links do in all the other areas. There is successful cooperation between our parliaments and in several international parliamentary organisations.
