Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean
Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 19 November with the delegation headed by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Enaam Mayara who are visiting in our country to participate in the COP29 taking place in Baku.
It was said at the meeting that the issue of global climate change concerns all countries, and that hosting the COP29 in Baku is a sign of respect for our country and an acknowledgment of Azerbaijan's active role on the international stage.
They underscored the threat that climate change poses to all states, as well as the importance of strengthening collective efforts to address the observed consequences of this phenomenon.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova told the guests about the Parliamentary Meeting held on 16-17 November and organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis acting together. According to her, the event, which was attended by parliamentarians from various countries and representatives of international parliamentary organisations, focused on the pressing issues stemming from this global problem, and resulted in the Final Document reflecting a unified position of the parliaments. Sahiba Gafarova emphasised the important role of parliaments in addressing climate change issues and described the Meeting as a parliamentary contribution to solving the problems related to global climate change.
The President of the Parliamentary Assembly Enaam Mayara congratulated Azerbaijan on the successful hosting of this global event and shared positive impressions about our country.
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova informed the guests about the green energy projects the implementation of which is under way in the liberated territories.
They also explored possible avenues for co-operation between the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement and the PAM.
