Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Georgian Parliament’s Delegation
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met on 24 December with the visiting delegation of the Parliament of Georgia led by Chairman of the parliamentary Youth, Science and Education Affairs Committee Givi Mikanadze.
The significance of the amiable relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia was underlined at the meeting; it was emphasised that the relations between our countries set high standards and that the two nations support each other invariably. President Ilham Aliyev, too, always pays special attention to such matters at his meetings with Georgian colleagues.
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova stressed that the Azerbaijanis and the Georgians, two neighbouring peoples, have always lived in friendship, that we are bound with common values and that it is necessary to preserve those values.
They expressed satisfaction with the elevated level of the inter-parliamentary connexions to the backdrop of the inter-state relations advancing in diverse fields. It was said that the legislative assemblies co-operated both bilaterally and trilaterally. Also, they stressed the mutual support in international parliamentary organisations. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova voiced the appreciation for the backing from the Georgian Delegation over ratification of the powers of the Azerbaijani Delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
It was also said that the parliaments of both countries began functioning with their new compositions following the respective elections, and efforts to expand the relations between them further would continue in the forthcoming period.
Chairman of the Youth, Science, and Education Committee of the Georgian Parliament Givi Mikanadze offered his congratulations to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on his birthday. The guest described President Ilham Aliyev as a historical personality under whose leadership Azerbaijan has undergone significant development.
He also conveyed the congratulations of the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis.
Givi Mikanadze mentioned the solid friendly ties built between our countries, adding that certain ‘friends’ are flustered by the unity of Azerbaijan and Georgia and thanking Azerbaijan for the support given to his country. The guest also stressed that the first congratulations following the parliamentary as well as the presidential elections in Georgia had come from nowhere else but Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan and Georgia support each other in the international arena, too, according to the parliamentary committee head.
The necessity of joint steps to combat the existing double standards applied to our countries was underscored during the conversation.
There was also an exchange of views on other matters of shared interest.
