Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with Speaker of the Consultative Council of the Sultanate of Oman Khalid Hilal Nasser Al Maawali who had arrived in our country to participate in the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).

During the meeting, they expressed confidence in the productivity of the upcoming plenary session and in that important issues would be discussed at it. The APA was described as a key platform for parliamentary diplomacy, bringing together legislative assemblies from across Asia. It was also emphasised that such platforms contribute to the development of discussions and dialogue between the legislative bodies of member states.

The conversation also focused on the shared satisfaction with the high level of political ties and dialogue between Azerbaijan and the Sultanate of Oman. It was noted that the historical, religious and cultural ties between our peoples provide a solid foundation for the further development of bilateral relations. There are ample opportunities to expand the co-operation between our countries in economic, trade, and other spheres.

As Speaker Sahiba Gafarova stressed, there are fruitful co-operation and mutual support between Azerbaijan and Oman within key international organisations such as the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.

The co-operation was discussed in the context of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established on the initiative of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The efforts undertaken to establish and strengthen the organisation’s institutional foundations since the inaugural conference of the Parliamentary Network, held under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, were highly praised as well.

Speaker of the Consultative Council of the Sultanate of Oman Khalid Nasser Al Maawali reaffirmed his country’s support for Azerbaijan in the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement’s Parliamentary Network, as well as in other international organisations.

The guest expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Azerbaijan and take part in the event, as well as for the warm hospitality extended to him. He also conveyed his satisfaction that Oman had become a full member of the APA during the Azerbaijani presidency. He said he was certain that the forthcoming 15th plenary session, to be held in our capital, would make a significant contribution to the organisation’s future activities.

It was further noted during the meeting that the parliamentary ties between Azerbaijan and Oman have strengthened considerably, particularly in recent years. Reciprocal visits and interactions play an important role in fostering these relations.

Also, views were exchanged upon other issues of mutual interest.
