At the Plenary Sitting of Euronest PA

The Euronest Parliamentary Assembly held a plenary sitting of the ninth ordinary session on 20 April.

The leader of the Azerbaijani delegation Azer Karimli and the delegation members Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Rufat Aliyev, Iltizam Yusifov, Malahat Ibrahimghizi, Hijran Huseynova, Vugar Bayramov and Nurlan Hasanov took part in the plenum.

First, the Euronest PA Co-chairmen Andrius Kubilius and Maka Bochorishvili spoke of the significance of broadening partnership and co-operation amongst the Assembly’s member-states as well as of ensuring security and integrity of the national territories in the Eastern Partnership area. Besides, they brought up the current developments in the region, underlined the need for crisis regulation and stressed that the coronavirus infection could only be defeated in the current pandemic period through joint struggle and in the spirit of solidarity.

The European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Olivér Várhelyi talked about the efforts made to save lives in the region to the pandemic’s backdrop. Mr Várhelyi also touched on such topics as maintaining the coronavirus vaccination, regulation of neighbourhood relations between the Eastern Partnership participants, the integration processes in a number of areas, the importance of investing in economic advancement and so forth.

The European Commission’s Vice President Luke Devigne offered an analysis of the political situation of the European Partnership countries.

The national parliaments’ delegates attending the ninth session of the Euronest PA initiated debates about a number of local processes after which the gathering listened to the greeting addresses to the Assembly of the monitors who had joined the online event.

President of the European Parliament David Sassoli held the official opening of the ninth ordinary session of the Euronest PA. He remarked as he was doing so that the Assembly represented the parliamentary dimension in the EaP region and that its goals were to bring the EU and EaP countries closer together and build the ties of close friendship amongst them.

A break was announced after the speech by Mr Sassoli.
