The PM also mentioned his three visits to Azerbaijan during the last year and shared his impressions from those.
He said he believed that the Milli Majlis Speaker’s current visit would serve to strengthen the ties between our countries and parliaments further.
The successful advancement of the Georgian-Azerbaijani relations in all areas, the fact that the interaction rests on mutual respect and confidence, and that it has reached the level of strategic partnership have all been broached in the course of the meeting. It was stressed as the conversation went on that the high-level relations of our countries were rooted in the centuries-long friendship of the two nations. Our peoples have always lived as good neighbours and in fraternity, and those traditions persist today.
Thanking for the heartfelt hospitality, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova passed on to the Prime Minister of Georgia the greetings and best regards of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The Prime Minister of Georgia thanked President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for the sincere words and greetings and, in turn, asked that his greetings be communicated to the Head of the Azerbaijani State. He remarked that Azerbaijan’s progress made under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev was a model for many countries.
As was said at the meeting, the exemplary political bonds of the two countries had ensured the progress of co-operation in many areas including the economic one. The friendship and strategic partnership of Azerbaijan and Georgia generated opportunities to implement major energy and transport projects which have to date become an important factor not only in the South Caucasus but also in a wider region. The significance of cultural and humanitarian co-operation was underscored, too.
As she was informing the PM on the extensive collaboration between the legislative assemblies of the two countries, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova mentioned that that was her second official visit to Georgia as Speaker of the Milli Majlis. At the same time, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia had visited Azerbaijan twice. There are also reciprocal visits between the friendship groups.
Furthermore, our parliaments co-operate not only bilaterally but also trilaterally. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also focused on the need to continue deepening our co-operation in international organisations. The importance of the Memorandum of Co-operation signed between our parliaments yesterday was reiterated; it was described as a new roadmap.
Then, they exchanged views upon the current situation in the region. It was said that it was crucial to attain lasting peace and stability for the sake of the future progress of the region. Besides, they underlined the inadmissible nature of the use of double standards, attempts to put pressure on individual states and of unfair, biased approaches.
