Perspectives for Co-operation between Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan Were Discussed

Chairman of the Disciplinary Commission of the Milli Majlis and Leader of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Interparliamentary Connections Working Group Eldar Ibrahimov met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan Bahrom Ashrafkhanov on 21 April.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Eldar Ibrahimov remarked that Azerbaijan attached a great importance to furthering the relations with Uzbekistan, adding that the historical friendship of our states and nations began in the times of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and has grown broader and stronger by now. President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan keep up their high-level interaction, which creates a dramatic momentum behind the progressing co-operation between the two countries.

Mr Ibrahimov recalled the recent meeting of Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, in which connection he turned to the bonds between the two legislatures, mutual visits and the work done by the two parliamentary friendship groups.

Mr Ibrahimov also brought up Azerbaijan’s outstanding victory gained in the 44-day Patriotic War; he told the interlocutor of the grave consequences of the Armenian vandalism wreaked in the liberated territories.

Mr Ashrafkhanov thanked for the opportunity to meet before telling Mr Ibrahimov of Uzbekistan’s constant support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and offering his congratulations on our country having liberated its own lands in conformity with the appropriate resolutions of the UN and on the basis of the international laws.

The attending Milli Majlis Working Group members Ziyad Samadzade, Javanshir Pashazade and Elman Nasirov spoke of the end to the war having brought peace and security to the region, of the emergence of new co-operating opportunities, the positive trends in the Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations, the existing potential and the progress prospects.

Other subjects of shared interest were brought up during the meeting as well.
