Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Delegation of Parliament of Georgia

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 20 June with the visiting delegation led by Shota Berekashvili, Chairman of the Committee on Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy of the Parliament of Georgia.
During the meeting, the Speaker remarked upon the relations between our countries, rooted in traditions of friendship and brotherhood, having reached the level of strategic partnership to date. Visits at the highest and high levels play a crucial role in the advancement of those relations.
The co-operation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in international organisations as well as their consistent mutual support on matters of territorial integrity and sovereignty, and manifestations of solidarity were all brought up with pleasure. It was said also that our countries collaborate successfully in the implementation of major energy and transport projects in the region.
As she was talking about the two countries’ inter-parliamentary relations, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova mentioned the very effective co-operation between our legislative assemblies. Friendship groups function with success in both countries’ parliaments whilst our delegations support each other in international parliamentary institutions.
The importance of bolstering relations between committees of our supreme legislative bodies was underlined then. Apart from the bilateral co-operation, the significance of the fruitful trilateral co-operation format of the foreign relations committees of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia was broached at the meeting as well.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova informed the visitors of the progress of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia as she was addressing the situation established in the region following Azerbaijan’s restoration of her territorial integrity consequent to the victory in the 44 days’ Patriotic War.
Chairman of the Committee on Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy of the Parliament of Georgia Shota Berekashvili expressed gratitude for the warm reception and went on to share his impressions of the visit to Azerbaijan and to underscore the importance of the relations between our countries, which are rooted in historical ties and have today reached the level of strategic partnership.
The guest noted that the development of the relations not only contributes to ensuring security and stability in the region but also serves the prosperity of our peoples.
Shota Berekashvili stressed the necessity of a continued progress of our inter-legislature relations, strengthening co-operation between committees and injecting more energy in the work done by the friendship groups; he also shared his views upon the prospects of inter-parliamentary co-operation.
The meeting also saw an exchange of opinions about other matters of interest to both sides.
