Participants of Inter-Parliamentary Forum Acquaint Themselves with Several History and Culture Monuments in Khiva Town

Participants of the First Uzbek-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Forum visited several historical and cultural landmarks in the city of Khiva in Uzbekistan. Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva and members of their respective delegations commenced their visit at the Arda Khiva Complex. They were informed that the Complex, constructed across an area comprising 25 hectares, is situated on the shores of Lake Govuk, enveloped by verdant greenery.
As part of the trip, the guests also acquainted themselves with the 'Nurullaboy' Palatial Complex. It was remarked that the Complex, which was erected to the orders of the Khan of Khiva Muhammad-Rahimbay II during 1906-1912, consists of four parts incorporating the total of more than 100 chambers and other spaces, amongst them ceremonial and judicial chambers residential buildings and a medrese. All the Palatial Complex edifices are surrounded with a robust castle wall which is over 650 metres long.
Subsequently, the participants of the First Uzbek-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Forum visited the Ichan-Kala State Historical and Architectural Museum in the town of Khiva. The guests were informed that the Ichan-Kala State Historical and Architectural Museum was established in 1920. In 1969, the historical town of Ichan-Kala was designated a museum-preserve. The museum’s collection is primarily composed of documents from the Khan’s Chancellery and various artefacts from the Palace. It was noted that the museum’s exhibitions, spanning a total area of 26 hectares, connect Uzbekistan’s ancient history with her contemporary era. The site houses 14 permanent museums and exhibitions related to the history of the Khiva Khanate and the ancient Khwarazm as well as ethnography, art specimens and diverse collections.
