Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Senate of Oliy Majilis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva Make a Press Statement

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva have made a press statement following the First Uzbek-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Forum.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that the first Forum had been organised with success, and expressed her confidence in that the discussions held at it would have a positive impact on the bilateral co-operation. It was further emphasised that the First Azerbaijani-Uzbek Inter-Parliamentary Forum reflects the high level of relations between our peoples and countries.

In her statement, she recalled that representatives of the Azerbaijani Parliament visit Uzbekistan frequently, both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of various international events, and underscored the positive changes taking place in Uzbekistan due to the measures implemented under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The Speaker stressed that, thanks to the political will of our Heads of State, the Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations resting on strong friendship and brotherhood continue developing by the day and have, in a short time, reached the level of alliance. She particularly stressed the significance of mutual visits at the level of Heads of State.

Further in her media statement, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova mentioned the highly effective co-operation established between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, pointing out that the numerous mutual visits by the Speakers of Parliament as well as the close contacts between MPs and Friendship Groups testify to the high level of our relations. Additionally, she underlined the significance of the Agreement on Co-operation between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan as well as of the two Roadmaps for the development of the inter-parliamentary co-operation. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed her satisfaction with the mutual support on all matters within the framework of international parliamentary organisations.

Furthermore, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed her confidence that the First Inter-Parliamentary Forum held today will contribute to the further deepening of the co-operation. It was said that this forum holds significant importance for strengthening and enhancing the legislative framework, providing opportunities to establish interaction between parliamentary committees and to exchange experiences in legislative activities.

She also highlit the importance of the relevant documents signed between the legislative assemblies of the two countries, adding with emphasis that those documents will elevate relations between our parliaments to a qualitatively new level. The Inter-Parliamentary Commission will operate on a permanent basis, creating opportunities for the more effective implementation of planned initiatives and the further deepening of the co-operation.

Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, in turn, shared her thoughts on the significance of the inaugural Forum, stating that this event creates a new co-operation platform. According to her, the Forum contributes to the further expansion of our relations, which are already at a high level.

In her statement, the Speaker of the Senate also accentuated the high level of the relations between our countries, emphasising the fruitful collaboration between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in numerous fields.
