Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova made an address at the closing ceremony of the First Uzbek-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Forum themed Towards New Horizons: From Dialogue to Joint Action on 1 July as part of her working visit to Uzbekistan.

She said that the Forum’s comprehensive programme, vibrant exchange of views and focused discussions conducted throughout the day let one safely say that significant work has been accomplished.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasised that the panel sessions of the Forum facilitated thorough discussions tackling numerous critical issues. The topics of those panel discussions reflected not only key aspects of the activities of parliamentary committees but also the areas in which our countries are co-operating actively today.

Referring to the signing of a new Action Plan (Roadmap) for 2025–2026, which encompasses bilateral and multilateral co-operation between the Parliaments of the two states, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also pointed out that the signing of the Regulations of the Commission on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan had been one of the forum’s significant outcomes. It is through the activities of this permanently functioning body that we shall able to review and implement our co-operation agenda more effectively.

In conclusion, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the Forum. She said that all objectives set had been achieved successfully. However, this is only the beginning. This Forum lays the foundation for future comprehensive, robust and deepened co-operation; the Inter-Parliamentary Forum will serve as an important platform and an effective mechanism for inter-parliamentary dialogue.

Also speaking at the closing ceremony, Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva addressed the significance of the forum, emphasising the gravitas of the issues discussed. She expressed a confidence that the constructive exchange of views held within the framework of the forum will contribute to the further expansion of relations between our countries and peoples. As Tanzila Narbayeva observed, the Uzbek-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Forum embodies the transition of our parliamentary co-operation to a qualitatively new level.

Furthermore, Tanzila Narbayeva accentuated the special role of our Heads of State in strengthening the friendly relations between our countries, adding that our ties have risen to the level of strategic partnership thanks to their principled stance.

As she said then, the interaction between our parliaments has been developing equally actively as in various other fields, with an increasing number of reciprocal visits and meetings, in recent years. In this regard, the establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission marks a new stage in the development of our co-operation.

The event was capped with the adoption of the Khiva Declaration that is based on its outcomes.
