Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim greeted the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, emphasised the significance of the 46^th AIPA General Assembly and thanked the Speaker of the Milli Majlis for her participation in this event.

He also asked that his greetings and best wishes be relayed to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

As the conversation continued, the Prime Minister said that he followed the dynamic development of Azerbaijan and that Malaysia is glad of the successes Azerbaijan achieved, especially, her economic progress and rising international repute.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova underscored the importance of the existing bonds of friendship and co-operation between Azerbaijan and Malaysia. Satisfaction was also voiced with our countries’ mutual backing in various international organisations.

The meeting saw an exchange of views upon the issues of co-operation between our legislatures. Apart from reciprocal visits and MPs’ joint efforts, the favourable co-operation of our parliaments in inter-parliamentary organisations was high-lit – such institutions, that is, as the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

As the conversation went on, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis told about the successes achieved by Azerbaijan in diverse areas, the tremendous projects under way in the de-occupied territories and the work done in order to make sure the erstwhile IDP return to their native lands.

Also, there was at the meeting an exchange of opinions about other matters of joint interest.
