Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 23 September with the visiting delegation led by Xaysana Khotphouthone, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor’s Office of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, in Azerbaijan for the international conference ‘On Guard of Sovereignty: the Status of the Prosecutor’s Office in the Constitution’, which is being held in Baku.

Having mentioned the significance of the international conference being held in Baku, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis stated her belief that this event would contribute to the exchange of best practices in prosecution and to identifying common challenges.

Successful advancement of the relations between Azerbaijan and Laos in various spheres was mentioned. The active co-operation and mutual support of our states in international organisations, particularly within the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement, were emphasised, too.

Then, they talked about the close collaboration of our countries’ political parties – the New Azerbaijan Party and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party – within the International Conference of Asian Political Parties.

The conversation included an exchange of views on issues linked to the relations between the parliaments; the positive role of the legislative bodies’ co-operation in the progress of the links between the countries was pointed up. Issues related to co-operation in international parliamentary institutions were accentuated, amongst other subjects. It was said that our parliaments co-operated upon such substantial platforms as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor’s Office of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Xaysana Khotphouthone thanked for the meeting and expressed the appreciation of the Azerbaijani side’s holding the international conference for prosecution authorities at such a high level. Speaking about the importance of the conference, the guest said he was certain that it was going to contribute in its own way to the strengthening of co-operation between amicable countries’ prosecution authorities.

Furthermore, during the conversation, the guest conveyed congratulations on the occasion of the 30^th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution in Azerbaijan and shared views on the further development of inter-parliamentary, economic, logistical, and other ties between the two countries.

The meeting also had an exchange of opinions about other topics of interest to both sides.
