A Hearing on Family Strategy is Held at Milli Majlis

The Milli Majlis Committee for Family, Women’s and Children’s Affairs and the Human Rights Ombudsman co-organised and a held a hearing ‘Forming a Family Strategy in the Legal Environment in Azerbaijan’ on 28 April.

Committee Chair Hijran Huseynova said that the event was being held on the occasion of the birthday of the outstanding ophthalmic researcher Academician Zarifa Aliyeva whose soul rest merry because her son, raised with her supreme upbringing, the esteemed President Ilham Aliyev succeeded in turning Azerbaijan into one of the leading states of our time and rid us of the thirty years’ longing for Garabagh. At the same time, First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva keeps up the traditions of Zarifa khanim by being the guardian of the national spiritual heritage and family staples, Mrs Huseynova added.

She referred to family’s role in the life of every human and every nation before telling the participants that the event had been staged to discuss reinforcing the institution of the family in our country, the relevant legislative issues in existence and the ways to resolve those issues.

Mrs Huseynova mentioned the backing to the hearing from Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Then, she turned to applying and streamlining the existing legal and regulatory frameworks for the institution of the family and the related public concerns.

Human Rights Commissioner Sabina Aliyeva, in turn, talked about such issues of concern to the public as household violence as well as premature and unofficial marriages. She set forth a number of suggestions, too.

Thoughts, remarks and proposals came from Deputy Chair of the parliamentary Committee Jala Aliyeva and the committee members Ramin Mammadov, Konul Nurullayeva, Tamam Jafarov and Rashad Mahmudov. The MPs highlighted the importance of implementing and solidifying new legislative norms and concepts for the strengthening of the institution of the family. They also talked over ways to safeguard the Azerbaijani families against negative influences from certain modern tendencies and such processes as globalisation, for instance.

The information about what their respective entities are doing in this area, what problems are encountered and how such problems could be solved was supplied by the following participants: Chairman of the State Committee for Religious Entities Mubariz Gurbanli, Deputy Minister for Education Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Chair of the State Committee for Family, Women’s and Children’s Problems Aynur Sofiyeva, Deputy Chairman of the State Statistics Committee Yusif Yusifov, Head of the Vital Records Registry Service Department of the Ministry of Justice Reyhana Karimova, the Supreme Court judges Elshana Valiyeva and Shahin Yusifov, a Department Head in the Ministry of Internal Affairs Adighezal Adighezalov, Head of the Department for Public-Political and Humanitarian Affairs and Interaction with Religious Entities Elmin Imanov and Chair of the Public Association for Aiding Women ‘The Clean World’ Mehriban Zeynalova.

Members of the Milli Majlis Committee for Family, Women’s and Children’s Affairs Sevil Mikayilova, Nigyar Arpadarai, Rauf Aliyev, Sadagat Valiyeva and Parvin Karimzade as well as other officials took part in the conference, too.
