Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for International Relations and Interparliamentary Contacts Samad Seyidov met on 6 May with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to our country Christopher Martinez Berroteran.

Welcoming the guest cordially, Mr Seyidov proceeded to mention Mr Berroteran’s active efforts as ambassador to Azerbaijan, spoke of the friendly ties between the two states advancing thanks to the high-level political connexions amongst their leaders and said it was a remarkable event that Azerbaijan had taken over from Venezuela the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement. Mr Seyidov emphasised that the economic and trading interaction between the two countries was not setting desirable standards despite the environment favourable of forward motion in the bilateral context.

The interparliamentary co-operation, too, is generating broad opportunities to make and advance friendly bonds, Mr Seyidov remarked before adverting to the relevant opportunities that exist now.

Christopher Martinez Berroteran thanked for the meeting before lauding the role of parliamentary diplomacy. In his opinion, he said, development of the bilateral interparliamentary relations is in the common interest. Mr Berroteran spoke of the activities of President Ilham Aliyev during the Azerbaijani chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement. The high-level relations, two-way visits, negotiations and the documents that the two states have signed to date bring forth favourable conditions for the bilateral co-operation to progress, to Mr Berroteran’s mind.

Other matters of joint interest were discussed during the conversation as well.
