Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova Mihai Popșoi

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Mihai Popșoi on 6 March.

It was said at the meeting that the high-level political bonds which exist between our countries afford good opportunities to develop the co-operation in various fields. The importance of reciprocal visits by the Heads of State and government officials for deepening ties between our countries and peoples was remarked upon as well. Contentment was voiced with the mutual support demonstrated by our countries in international organisations, too.

Mihai Popșoi conveyed to the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament the greetings of Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova Igor Grosu. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis requested that her greetings, in turn, be communicated to the Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova. As she mentioned contentedly Igor Grosu's visit to our country and her meetings with him on the sidelines of various events, Sahiba Gafarova shared her views upon the ties of co-operation that exist between the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Moldova and upon also the prospects for developing these ties; she particularly noted the work done by the reciprocal inter-parliamentary friendship groups. The Speaker mentioned our collaboration going on successfully within international organisations as well as the fact that our MPs provide support to one another in these structures.

As the conversation continued, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova condemned Iran’s treacherous drone attacks in the region of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, saying that those attacks on our country were inadmissible and had angered the Azerbaijani people.

Mihai Popșoi, for his part, declared Moldova's resolute condemnation of these treacherous attacks and expressed solidarity with our country on this matter.

It was said that Azerbaijan, too, had backed Moldova over many issues and that our countries were supportive of each other with regards to territorial integrity and sovereignty. Mihai Popșoi expressed gratitude for the support from Azerbaijan during the energy crisis in Moldova.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova updated the guest on the continuing normalisation and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The guest remarked that his country greeted the initiative and Azerbaijan’s leadership in the peace process.

The meeting also saw an exchange of opinions about other topics of shared interest.
