THE DECLARATION by the Law Policy and State-Building Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic
The relations between the Azerbaijan Republic and the Islamic Republic of Iran are friendly and good-neighbourly in nature. The visits that Mr President Ilham Aliyev of the Azerbaijan Republic and Mr President Hassan Rouhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran have exchanged and the numerous meetings they have held as well as the signed bilateral documents being acted upon currently play an immense part in the progress of those relations. The parliaments of the two countries, too, have the bonds of friendship and collaboration that unite them.
We appreciate very much the ideas and statements of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Khamenei and of the Iranian officials, voiced whilst we were waging a counter-offensive to liberate Garabagh, about liberating the lands of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia and about Iran supporting the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Therefore, we condemn strongly the statements that the member of the Milli Majlis Committee for Law Policy and State-Building Bahruz Maharramov made about Iran and Iran’s Supreme Leader at the meeting of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic on 6 November 2020. We wish to emphasise that that was him expressing strictly his very own personal opinions.
We now declare that such thoughts entertained about the neighbouring country maintaining close and sincere ties with the Azerbaijan Republic as well as about the Leader of this country are completely unacceptable. No-one can ever damage the friendship between our nations and states.
