Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Deputy Speaker of Federal National Council of United Arab Emirates

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Maryam Majid Bin Theneya in Bukhara on 14 May in the course of her working visit to Uzbekistan to participate in the 2nd Asian Women’s Forum.
It was remarked during the conversation that the bonds between our countries are founded on fraternity, mutual respect, reciprocal confidence and shared support. The parties stressed the special import of the joint endeavours of our countries’ leaders as well as of mutual high-level visits in our relationship having attained the level of strategic partnership.
Recalling her visits to the United Arab Emirates, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis shared the impressions from the meetings held and the matters discussed there.
Also, thoughts were voiced at the meeting as to co-operation issues concerning international organisations. Our countries’ successful co-operation and the mutual support demonstrated by them in such international and regional organisations as the UN, the OIC and the Non-Aligned Movement were brought up. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis expressed contentment with the UAE representatives’ participation in the work done by the Non-Aligned Movement’s Parliamentary Network established at the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. As the exchange of views continued, they also talked about the significance of the 2nd Asian Women’s Forum and the importance of the topics discussed at it. It was said that such parliamentary platforms were also as essential for discussions about matters pertaining to bilateral co-operation.
They emphasised, as they were talking about the successful links built between our legislative bodies in the spirit of our countries’ relationship, that bilateral co-operation and co-operation in international parliamentary organisations had pre-conditioned the achievement of positive outcomes in this area.
The essentialness of the friendship groups active in the legislative bodies for the progress of the inter-parliamentary links was brought up during the conversation.
As the exchange of opinions went on, they stressed the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates; they also underlined the document’s role in an eventual greater expansion of the co-operation between the parties.
Other matters of shared interest were talked over at the meeting as well.
