Speaker of the Milli Majlis had a meeting with the visiting Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeenko on 19 May.

To begin with, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus acquainted himself with the Plenary Chamber of the Milli Majlis. A tête-à-tête meeting of the parties was held then.

Arriving then at the memorial hall named in honour of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, the guests familiarised themselves with the hall’s exhibits conveying various periods of the life and political activism of the Azerbaijani people’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeenko left a heartfelt entry in the Memorial Book there.

A meeting of the parties in the expanded format took place afterwards.

Emphasising that this was the guest’s first ever official visit to Azerbaijan, the Speaker mentioned the meeting of the Chamber of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus with President Ilham Aliyev today. As she was talking about the tremendous role of the high-level relationship between the two Heads of State in the progress of the relations, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova observed that reciprocal summit and high-status visits as well as the documents signed, too, promote the continued deepening of the bonds. The successful co-operation of our countries in international organisations and their mutual support across a range of issues upon international platforms were brought up as well.

Contentment was witnessed during the conversation also with the current level of the ties between our Parliaments as an important sector of our states’ relations. Our legislative bodies’ fruitful co-operation, bilateral as well as in international parliamentary organisations, was duly noted. As was stressed at the meeting, the Memorandum of Understanding about co-operation signed between our Parliaments had contributed dramatically to the development of the relations between our legislative bodies.

Expressing gratitude for the hospitality, Igor Sergeenko remarked that the foundational issues of urban planning had been covered in the speech delivered by President Ilham Aliyev at the WUF13 opening ceremony yesterday. The guest spoke of the outstanding importance of that event and about that the problems of urbanisation as one of the most significant topics of the modern age were discussed at the WUF13.

As the conversation unfolded, the guest shared views upon inter-parliamentary co-operation, exchange of legislative experience, joint activities in international parliamentary organisations and other matters.

Also, the meeting saw an exchange of opinions regarding other issues of shared interest.
