Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met on 8 June with the visiting delegation led by Prosecutor General of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam Nguyễn Tiến.

It was mentioned in the conversation that it was back in the past century that Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the great son of the Vietnamese people Ho Chi Minh laid the foundation for the friendly relations between our countries. The dynamic advancement of those relations since Azerbaijan having restored her independence was stressed as well.

The exceptional role of reciprocal high-level and summit visits in strengthening the bilateral ties was emphasised as the meeting went on; also, it was observed that the visits of the President of Azerbaijan to Vietnam and the President of Vietnam to Azerbaijan have defined the dynamics of our relations.

They talked about the effective co-operation between our countries in the format of international organisations. As she referred to the significance of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement in this regard, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis invited Vietnam to be actively involved upon this platform.

The Speaker informed the guest of the interaction of the Milli Majlis with the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the context of parliamentary endeavours to streamline the national legislative system, also, about the structure of the modern Parliament of Azerbaijan, its international activities and the parties’ representation in the Parliament. It was remarked that the fruitful co-operation between the two countries’ ruling parties, namely, the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam, contributes dramatically to the progress of the bilateral relations.

As the conversation went on, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis also shared her thoughts about the co-operation with the Parliament of Vietnam, the activity of the inter-parliamentary relations Working Groups and the prospects for expanding the ties between the Parliaments.

Thanking for the meeting, Prosecutor General of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam Nguyễn Tiến passed on the regards of the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly and shared the impressions from his visit to our country. He mentioned with contentment Azerbaijan hosting a range of important international events before stressing that the successful arrangement of COP29 in our country ranked amongst those.

The guest touched upon the development of the links between the prosecution authorities of the two countries and talked about the significance of the documents signed between his office and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan as well as about co-operation prospects. He remarked that the co-operation programme signed between the Prosecutor Generals’ Offices of Vietnam and Azerbaijan today will serve a continued reinforcement of the measures to combat crime.

The meeting also saw an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
