Several members of the Milli Majlis Working Group for the interparliamentary connections Azerbaijan-France met with a visiting delegation of the French news portal ‘Musulmans en France’ on 17 May.

The Working Group leader Soltan Mammadov welcomed the guests before talking about the Azerbaijani-French relations, which, he interjected, had carried considerable importance since the epoch of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. Mr Mammadov also brought up the contributions by President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to the continued deepening of the bilateral co-operation.

On another note, the MP touched regretfully on the adverse campaign against Azerbaijan unleashed in France during and after the 44-day Patriotic War. He mentioned the biased resolutions, unfair assaults and declarations contradicting the international laws; he also emphasised their adverse impact on sustainable peace and tranquillity in the South Caucasus. Mr Mammadov thanked those French mass media that advocate truth, international laws and justice as personified by the «Musulmans en France» news portal.

The founder and editor-in-chief of the «Musulmans en France» Jean-Michel Brun, in turn, stressed that the known position shared by certain politicians and parliamentarians was not upheld by France as a whole. The visitor spoke of the information war going on in the media space yet and stressed the importance of informing the French society of the truths related to Azerbaijan regularly and to higher standards.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis Culture Committee and a member of the Working Group for interparliamentary connections with France Ganira Pashayeva and the Islam researcher with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and a doctor of École pratique des hautes études (Paris) Karim Ifrak said that it was necessary to have the culture, multiculturalism and tolerance of Azerbaijan be recognised in France. They both shared their ideas about what steps had to be taken to that end.

Another member of the Milli Majlis Working Group Kamal Jafarov, a French journalist Sarah Durman and several other officials were taking part in the meeting as well.
