Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Deputy Speaker of Senate of Kingdom of Cambodia

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia Thun Vathana who is visiting in our country.
It was observed at the meeting that Azerbaijan and Cambodia are friendly state despite the geographic remoteness; they also talked about the positive dialogue of our countries generating sound opportunities to continue expanding the co-operation in many areas.
Satisfaction was expressed with the mutual support between Azerbaijan and Cambodia in the formats of the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement and other international organisations as well as with the effective co-operation apace between the parties.
The roles of the Parliaments in deepening the links between our countries was pointed up during the conversation. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova recalled her official visit to Cambodia and the meetings with the Prime Minister as well as with the Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate of the country during that visit before emphasising the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Milli Majlis and the National Assembly of Cambodia. Reciprocal visits of the MPs and both sides’ representatives taking part in the events organised in Azerbaijan and Cambodia were talked of as well. The Speaker stressed the importance of the co-operation in international parliamentary organisations, especially, within the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
Thun Vathana passed on to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis the greetings of Speaker of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Sen. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova asked that her greetings be communicated to the Speaker of the Senate.
The guest brought up the considerable importance that his country attaches to the ties with Azerbaijan in many areas including within the Parliaments. Speaking in this context, the guest mentioned the roles of reciprocal visits and of the work done by the Friendship Groups active in the Parliaments of the two countries.
It was remarked at the meeting that this visit was being paid for the participation in the international conference ‘Regional Contribution to Global Security: Peace-Building in the South Caucasus’ that the New Azerbaijan Party is going to hold in Shusha; the existing co-operation between the political parties of our countries was lauded also. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova let it be known, besides, that the guests to be taking part in the event will acquaint themselves with the tremendous restorative work being done during their visit to Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan. She informed the guest of the 30-year-long occupation of Azerbaijani lands and their de-occupation.
The conversation also included an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
