Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Member of U.S. Congress’ House of Representatives Abraham Hamadeh

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with the visiting Member of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress Abraham Hamadeh on 17 June.
The recent development of the high-level relations between the USA and Azerbaijan was brought up at the meeting. It was said that those relations rested on mutual respect and common interests as well as on the foundations serving peace, security and progress.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis touched upon the role of the United States and President Donald Trump in supporting peace and stability in our region, mentioning in this context the Washington Summit and its successful outcomes. A relevant special session having been organised at the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan was mentioned as well.
The importance of the initialing of the peace treaty and of the signing of the tripartite Joint Declaration in Washington, D.C. for restoration of peace and stability in the region were stressed during the conversation. At the same time, it was remarked that the TRIPP Corridor was going to contribute importantly to the progress of regional transport liaisons as well as to deepening peace and co-operation in the region.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasised the historic significance of President Ilham Aliyev’s latest visits to Washington, D.C. and of the meetings of the Head of the Azerbaijani State with President Donald Trump in terms of the bilateral relationship’s advancement. The remarkable role in a continued expansion of our relations of the signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America, signed during Vice President J. D. Vance’s visit to our country, was underlined, too.
Member of the U.S. Congress’ House of Representatives Abraham Hamadeh expressed his gratitude for the high-standard hospitality extended to him and voiced his wish to see the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament at the U.S. Congress.
As the conversation continued, Abraham Hamadeh remarked upon the significance of the USA-Azerbaijan relations and mentioned their current development in various directions. He described Azerbaijan as a country of special significance due to her geographic position as well as in view of the role she plays in international co-operation.
The guest also high-lit the strengthening of peace in the region and touched upon the importance of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova lauded in the conversation President Donald Trump’s signing of the memorandum extending the suspension of the 907th Amendment to the Freedom Support Act, saying that that helps facilitate practical co-operation of our countries in areas of shared interest. Lauding also the acts by the U.S. Congress Members motioning initiatives to strengthen the bilateral relations and eliminating the hurdles no longer reflective of the current reality of our countries’ partnership, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasised in this regard the significance of Abraham Hamadeh’s co-authorship of the Bill introduced in the US Congress to repeal Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act.
As she was talking about the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, she mentioned the four meetings she had had with the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova informed the guest, as the conversation went on, of our country’s history of democratic development and the multicultural environment and tolerance traditions found in Azerbaijan as well as the activities of the Milli Majlis, its co-operation with parliaments of other countries and international parliamentary organisations alike and about also other matters of interest.
Besides, development of the relations between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the U.S. Congress was broached during the conversation.
