Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Yemen Sultan Saeed Albarkani who is visiting in our country to take part in the 20^th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Member States.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis expressed contentment with the high Yemeni representation at the COP29 event held in Baku as well as with Yemen’s participation in the 20^th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Member States.

The mutual support and solidarity that our countries demonstrate upon various platforms were mentioned at the meeting. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova shared information about the work done in the period when she was heading the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network established at the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The parties expressed satisfaction with the co-operation between our Parliaments in international organisations including the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

The special role of inter-parliamentary co-operation in deepening our countries’ relationship was emphasised during the conversation. It was remarked that establishment of mutual friendship groups in the legislative bodies of both countries would contribute massively to the progress of the relations.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Sultan Saeed Albarkani thanked Azerbaijan at the meeting for the high organisational standards of the 20^th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Member States and touched on the importance of the matters discussed within the Organisation. The guest indicated the interest of his country in furthering the relations with Azerbaijan and voiced satisfaction with the development observed here. As the conversation continued, the Speaker of the House of Representatives shared thoughts about the two countries’ co-operation in various areas and about development prospects of the relations between the Parliaments.

Sultan Saeed Albarkani expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s moral and humanitarian aid to the people of Yemen.
