The adoption in the National Assembly of France of the draft constitutional law providing for the establishment of the broadest special autonomous status for Corsica within the French Republic is an important milestone in the history of the Corsican people. The draft law provides for granting Corsica the broadest self-governing powers, taking into account the island's historical, cultural, social and geographical characteristics, and is assessed in this regard as a significant political outcome of the peaceful, democratic and consistent struggle waged by the Corsican people over many years.

We, the Support Group for the People of Corsica of the Milli Majlis, appreciate highly and hail wholeheartedly such perseverance, determination and commitment to the democratic principles of the people of Corsica. The perseverance and determination manifested by the people of Corsica in deciding their future demonstrate once again that peoples’ legitimate demands eventually find their reflection on the political plane. In this regard, the decision made by the National Assembly of France is not only a legislative act but also an important political achievement in the long-standing struggle of the people of Corsica.

We hope that the Senate of France, too, will demonstrate historical responsibility and will second the decision made by the National Assembly of France, thus showing respect for the democratic will of the people of Corsica.
