Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Speaker of House of Federation of Ethiopia

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Speaker of the House of Federation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Agegnehu Teshager on 29 July as part of her official visit to that country.
Agegnehu Teshager remarked that Azerbaijan was a very important country to Ethiopia, adding that the two countries’ relations have grown stronger still following Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali’s visit to Azerbaijan.
It was mentioned during the meeting that Ethiopia is interested in developing its relations with Azerbaijan further in such areas as trade, investments and tourism. Also, it was stressed that Azerbaijan’s achievements in tourism serve as a fortunate example for Ethiopia.
The Speaker of the House of Federation said that the initialling of the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia is Azerbaijan’s success and that our country’s progress and achievements are traced intently in the friendly Ethiopia.
For instance, he praised highly the application of the ASAN Service in Ethiopia as well and the technical support Azerbaijan had extended in this regard, saying then that the model had been implemented in the provinces of Ethiopia having increased the efficiency of the provision of public services.
Agegnehu Teshager remarked on the lofty acclaim won by the high-level hosting of COP29 by Azerbaijan, recalling that his country was to host COP32 in 2027 and that they will benefit by Azerbaijan’s experience in this field as well.
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova thanked for the hospitality extended to her to high standards, mentioned the remarkable successes achieved by Ethiopia over the past years and congratulated the Ethiopian side on those achievements. She said that our countries’ connections were at a sound level and that there is a considerable potential to deepen the relations further.
The ties between our Parliaments were reviewed at the meeting, too. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova recalled fondly her previous meeting with Speaker of the House of Federation Agegnehu Teshager and said that our Parliaments ought to expand their relations on par with the advancement of the inter-governmental ties. The role of the reciprocal visits of the Speakers of Parliament and friendship groups in the continuing deepening of the co-operation between the legislative bodies was underscored during the conversation. Also, the Speakers considered co-operation opportunities for parliamentary committees, friendship groups and parliamentary Staffs.
The Speaker of the House of Federation talked about Azerbaijan pursuing parliamentary diplomacy actively and about her energetic representation in many international parliamentary organisations. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasised the importance of broadening co-operation on the platforms of this kind.
Agegnehu Teshager observed that the visit of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis was taking place in a rather very important period, saying that the 7th parliamentary elections had been held in Ethiopia a while ago and informing of their outcomes.
The meeting also saw an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
