Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Procurator-General of People’s Republic of China

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with the visiting delegation led by Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the People’s Republic of China Ying Yong on 31 August.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis stated her confidence that this visit will contribute to the progress of the friendly and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and China as well as of the links between the prosecution authorities.
The Speaker high-lit the advancement of our relations through the years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992 on the basis of amity, mutual respect and mutual support. She remarked that Azerbaijan always adheres to the ‘one China’ principle whereas China, in turn, supports Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity invariably.
As she spoke of the exceptional role of supreme and high-level visits in the strengthening of the bilateral relations, Sahiba Gafarova underlined the significance of President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to China and the signed Joint Declaration of Strategic Partnership.
The Speaker informed the guest of the constructive co-operation between the Milli Majlis and the General Prosecution Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan as well as of the structure of the Parliament and the legislative process. She said that the Milli Majlis of the seventh convocation operating currently had been formed pursuant to the elections held in 2024. Those elections are of special significance as the first parliamentary ballot held in the whole sovereign territory of Azerbaijan.
As the meeting went on, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis talked about the current condition and future opportunities of the co-operation with the Parliament of China and recalled fondly her working visit to China in March this year and the meeting and discussions held with the Speaker of the country’s legislature Zhao Leji. Besides, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova commented on the work done by the inter-parliamentary relations working group.
The activities of the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of China in the context of mutually advantageous political collaboration were praised highly during the conversation as another token of the partnership between Azerbaijan and China. Also, they mentioned Azerbaijan’s active involvement in the One Belt. One Way initiative and our country’s considerable role in promoting the Middle Corridor which unites China and Europe.
The Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the People’s Republic of China Ying Yong thanked for the meeting and mentioned his meeting and discussions with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji and, acting on his request, relayed his greetings to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed her gratitude and, in turn, asked that he regards be communicated to the colleague.
The guest spoke appreciatively of the high level of the relations between Azerbaijan and China and emphasised the importance of the visits of Mr President Ilham Aliyev to China in 2025 and his meetings with Mr President Xi Jinping.
As he was talking about the progress of the links between the prosecution authorities of the two countries, the Procurator-General mentioned the documents signed with the General Prosecution Office of Azerbaijan and touched upon co-operation prospects. He remarked that close co-operation between the prosecution authorities of the two countries will promote protection of the rights of both countries’ citizens and prevention of crime alike. The guest talked about the activities of China’s law enforcement authorities and judicial system, the co-operation between the Supreme People’s Procuratorate and the Parliament and about the work done by the country’s prosecution authorities.
The meeting also saw an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
Whilst at the offices of the Milli Majlis, the guests also went to the Plenary Chamber and acquainted themselves with the arrangements in place in it.
