Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Speaker of National Assembly of Republic of Serbia

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Anna Brnabić on 1 September as part of her working visit to the Republic of Serbia.

The current state and growth prospects of the Azerbaijani-Serbian relations, expanding the inter-parliamentary ties and other matters of interest to both sides were discussed at the meeting.

Sahiba Gafarova pointed at the high level of the two countries’ political dialogue and underlined the successful advancement in various fields of the links based on mutual trust and respect. The Speaker of Parliament emphasised the important role of reciprocal visits and high-level meetings in the progress of the bilateral relations. She talked about the initiatives which Azerbaijan had implemented during the four-year chairmanship tenure in the Non-Aligned Movement as well as about the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network established upon the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis recalled fondly her official visit to Serbia in May 2023 as well as her working trip to Serbia to take part in the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians in June this year.

Anna Brnabić expressed contentment with the development of the Azerbaijani-Serbian relations, saying that the inter-parliamentary connections, too, continue developing with positive dynamics. She recalled favourably her official visit to Azerbaijan in September last year and underscored the importance of the meetings held during the visit for the continued strengthening of the bilateral relations.

Other issues of shared concern were discussed at the meeting as well.
