Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova has met with the Permanent Representatives of the Eastern European Group countries to the United Nations Organisation (UN)  as part of her working visit to NYC.

As she was talking at the event, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis shared her views upon the importance of international parliamentary diplomacy, expansion of inter-parliamentary co-operation and various aspects of activities in international parliamentary organisations.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis remarked upon various international and regional parliamentary organisations’ uniting countries, and emphasised the necessity of hearing the positions of all the parties, following fair and transparent procedures and defining common operation vectors in matters of shared interest to ensure that the work done upon such platforms is organised effectively.

Sahiba Gafarova addressed Azerbaijan’s contribution to international co-operation and development of parliamentary diplomacy during the latest years. She also talked about Azerbaijan’s activities during the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, the initiatives proposed by our countries and the important successes that had been achieved. She observed that the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network established upon the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev had become in the past period an important international parliamentary platform.

The Speaker stressed in her address the role of the UN’s co-operation with international parliamentary organisations and how this interaction could promote resolution of global challenges and implementation of international decisions at national levels. She shared views regarding the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the largest international parliamentary organisation in the world, and regarding also the significance of enhancing its role in international and regional affairs.

The meeting saw an exchange of views as to matters of transformation of global commitments to national actions, sustainable development, climatic agenda as well as global security, demographic changes and migration.
